ROH Psychiatric Outreach Team

Objectives:

  • Develop experience in identifying factors contributing to homelessness in the mentally ill.
  • Understand models for care of severely and chronically mentally ill adults.
  • Become familiar with presentation of mental illness in Ottawa Shelters and rooming houses.

Description:

The medical student will accompany the Outreach Psychiatrist and other members of the team into community shelters to interview clients and support community staff in intervention and treatment planning. For students with a 1 week or 4 week elective, opportunities to observe psychological assessment, intervention and clinical research assessment will also be available with the team Psychologist, Dr. Farrell.
