Director's Report

Dr. Brad Booth was appointed program director of the Postgraduate Education Program in May of 2009. With the help of a very committed Post-graduate education committee and strong support of the Chair of Psychiatry, Dr. Katharine Gillis, he will continue to build on the strengths of the program.

Our Vision

To produce solidly trained general psychiatrists who are ready to serve Canadians of all ages, in any geographic setting.
To provide interested residents opportunity for obtaining more specialized skills that compliment their training and career goals.
Training is to incorporate CanMeds roles and to find an appropriate balance of academic, clinical and research skill acquisition.

Strategic Directions

Increase resident participation in research of various types
Develop the roles of the site directors and the chief residents at each site, focussing on CanMeds roles
Introduce options regarding career paths to residents earlier, including providing further exposure to community psychiatry
Increase residents' active participation in their learning with the goal of developing their roles as professional and manager
Improve recognition of residents and educational staff for their contribution and successes
Implement improved longitudinal assessments of residents
